TORRES Cláudio – Salazar 40 anos? Colab. Flausino Torres. Porto: Afrontamento, 2008. ISBN 978-972-36-0969-1
“The year of 1966 was approaching, when forty years had passed since the 28th of May of 1926 and the idea came naturally. It was necessary to participate directly and earnestly in denouncing a regime that seemed to perpetuate itself in power; that in spite of its weariness and international isolation kept sending thousands of young men to the African wilderness and imprisoning all those who had differing ideas. The drawings began to emerge sometimes enveloped in a scathing smile, or hastily sketched in an incipient discourse.
In order to organise a justifiable and coherent text, I turned to my father, Flausino Torres, at the time already exiled in Algiers, where he worked with the Patriotic National Liberation Front.
It was his idea to choose a few sentences from Salazar’s speeches which, somehow, related to the drawings.” (words by Cláudio Torres freely translated to English from the introduction of the book)
