Town charters, symbolically and historically, are the repository of the long history of Portuguese municipalities, and through their reading and interpretation we can understand the functioning and evolution of the various administrative and social realities in our country. Based on its historical importance, namely the significance that it had in this territory, the Municipality of Mértola decided to mark the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Manueline Charter of Mértola with its study and subsequent publication. The Municipality of Mértola shows once again that the areas of culture and heritage continue to be part of a broader strategy that increasingly values Mértola, revealing its identity and brand, and establishing these areas as key vectors for the development of our Municipality.
