Centring research in Mértola

On 8 June, at 17h30, a cycle of presentations of the on-going projects of CEAUCM-CAM’s young researchers will take place in the “Casa Amarela” – CAM.

This cycle, entitled CENTRING RESEARCH, is open to the entire community, with some communications already held in Coimbra. On 29 May, members of CAM’s team will go to Porto.

Centring research – Mértola at Porto

On 29 May, at 14h30, the conference “Centring research – recent research in the Citadel of the Castle of Mértola” will take place in the Meeting Room of the Faculty of Arts, University of Porto. This conference is part of the cycle of presentations of on-going projects by the young researchers of CEAUCP-CAM.

This cycle, entitled CENTRING RESEARCH, is open to the entire community, with some communications already held in Coimbra. Throughout May, the cycle will come to Mértola and Porto.
 

Colloquium “Dialects from the Sea and River”

The Colloquium “Dialects from the Sea and River” takes place on 4, 5 and 6 May 2012 at the Centre for Islamic Studies and the Mediterranean/Mértola’s Archaeological Field.



The Colloquium is jointly held by the Traditional Literature Research Institute (FCSH / NOVA), Mértola’s Archaeological Field and Mértola’s Heritage Protection Association.

Mértola is "a small focus of right action"

The historian José Mattoso was recently honoured at a scientific event in Mértola regarding heritage library collections, in which special emphasis was given to the cataloguing of his personal library, donated to Mértola’s Archaeological Site, which will soon be available online. This work makes the historian "very satisfied" and convinced of having left his legacy in the right place.

The CAM Library participates in the “Week of Reading” of the Group of Schools of Mértola

The Library of Mértola’s Archaeological Site (BCAM) participated in the past 21st of March “Week of Reading” of the Group of Schools of Mértola, held by the School Library / Educational Resource Centre Aurelio Frazão Saragoça. The reading session performed by BCAM to the class of 6C began with two excerpts from the book “Rafa e as férias de verão” (Rafa’s Summer Vacations), written by Fátima Pombo. This work follows the daily life of a 15 year old boy and the contradictions around him, focusing on the issues of adolescence, such as puberty, dating and family relationships.

Registration Techniques in Archaeology

During the 1st half of 2012, Mértola’s Archaeology Site will hold 4 short courses on Registration Techniques in Archaeology. These courses are integrated in the educational plan of this institution, aiming to build and diversify knowledge intrinsic to the fields of Archaeology and Heritage studies. These courses are mainly directed to Archaeology students and professionals in the areas of Archaeology and Heritage studies who intend to further knowledge in neglected areas of their vocational or academic training.

Reopening of the Roman centre of the Museum of Mértola

Under the initiative "Remember Serrão Martins", of the Municipality of Mértola, the Roman museum centre reopens to the public on the 27th of March, at 17h30.
 
The permanent exhibition of this museum centre, established 24 years ago, was completely overhauled, featuring new findings from the archaeological excavations carried out in Mértola in recent years, and with changes to the content and graphic design of the informative media.

Heritage awareness programme – 2012

Mértola’s Archaeological Site and the Museum of Mértola, in collaboration with the Group of Schools of Mértola, will promote once again a heritage awareness programme, in March, April and May. The following activities are planned: workshop "Identifying Human Bones", workshop "Let’s go to the Conservation Laboratory" and the Heritage Week.

These activities are aimed at nursery and primary school students.
