This work presents archaeological, historical and ethnological studies on pottery. In this respect, some of the themes approached in this volume are the identification of archaeological contexts, the recognition of Portuguese potters, the appreciation of traditional pottery, the definition of pottery types as well as the description of methods for preparing the clay.

"In the 9th and 10th of February the Symposium “Beja - Images of the Ancient City” will take place in Beja. Among others, Jorge Alarcão, José d'Encarnação, Cláudio Torres and Joaquim Caetano will participate in the event.
The starting point is the excavations that Maria da Conceição Lopes has managed for long in the city forum. It has been a lengthy and difficult process in many respects. The important discoveries made in recent years are the cornerstone of this new starting point.
On the 19th of December, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) opened to the public its historical archive, which has about 3.5 km of documents with information about science in Portugal. The archive consists of more than 40.000 folders with documentation from 1967 onwards, a date marking the establishment of the National Board of Scientific and Technological Research (JNICT), predecessor to the FCT.
