Presentation of “Acervos patrimoniais: novas perspetivas e abordagens” and “Arqueologia Medieval 12”

In the next month of December the latest publications of Mértola’s Archaeological Field (CAM) will be presented: the proceedings of the meeting “Acervos patrimoniais: novas perspetivas e abordagens” (“Heritage library collections: new perspectives and approaches”) and the journal “Arqueologia Medieval” no. 12 (“Medieval Archaeology”).



Presentation of published works by CAM – Mértola Book Fair – 2012

On 23th November, 6:30 PM, at the Mértola Book Fair, the latest publications of Mértola’s Archaeological Field will be presented: “Arqueologia Medieval”, n.º 12 (“Medieval Archaeology”, no 12), and “Acervos Patrimoniais Novas Perspetivas e Abordagens” (“Heritage library collections: new perspectives and approaches”).

During these days, the Hall of the Fire Department of Mértola will welcome this event once again, hosting several cultural activities for the local population.

“Mértola, the last port of the Mediterranean” at Tavira – 13th November to 27th April 2013

“The exhibition ‘Mértola, the last port of the Mediterranean’ by Santiago Macias will be unveiled on 13th November, 11:00 AM, at the Municipal Museum of Tavira - Islamic Centre, and will be open until 27th April 2013.

This exhibition reflects the work of all whom have passed by Mértola and cooperated with its Archaeological Field in order to help build its history.

Description: Boat shaped piece with a middle cavity into which the bobbins are placed with the rolled up yarn. In weaving, the shuttles carry the thread across the loom weft.

Exhibition “Signs of Everyday Life” at Silves

 

Starting on 23th October the CAM exhibition "Signs of Everyday Life" will be on display at the Municipal Museum of Archaeology in Silves.

“Signs of Everyday Life: Gestures, Markings and Symbols in the Al-Andalus”. The exhibition, which is a part of the programme of the 10th International Congress on Medieval Pottery in the Mediterranean" features some objects found in excavations in the West of the Iberian Peninsula during the Islamic period, the Gharb al-Andalus, clarifying some of its less obvious meanings.

International Congress on Medieval Pottery in the Mediterranean - Silves and Mértola

On 24th October there will be a visit to Mértola, followed by a session on “the Mediterranean and the Atlantic”, at the Marques Duque Theatre.

At this conference several national and international experts will look into six main subjects: ceramics in context, ceramics and power, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, evolution and transfer of techniques, ceramics and commerce, and ceramics and the Discoveries. Additionally, about a hundred posters will be on display, relating to some of the conference presentations.
